Gaius (Caligula), AD 37-41. Gold Aureus (7.76g) struck at Lugdunum AD 37. Bare head right of Gaius. Reverse: Radiate head right of the deified Augustus, star on left and right. RIC 1 [as R2]. BMC 1. This rare coin is from the first issue of Caligula minted at Lugdunum before the transference of the main mint to Rome. Excellent portraits. Choice Very Fine.
