Lot 24

1793 Flowing Hair Half Cent. C-3, B-3, R.3. PCGS graded AU-50. Deep, charcoal-brown with hints of underlying red. Popular first-year-of-issue type coin -- this and the 1793 Large Cents were the first coins produced by the newly opened Mint at Philadelphia. This is Cohen's "Hooked Bust Line" variety -- it should really be called a "Small Date" because of the obvious difference in sizes between the dates on the two obverse dies used in this year. PCGS reports 13 examples in this grade with only 43 finer, very few of which are at the Mint State level. This is a classic American rarity in a highly desirable grade.
Estimated Value $14,000 - 16,000.

Realized $17,825
