Lot 107

1867 Indian Head Cent. 67 over 67. PCGS graded MS-64 Red. FS-008, Snow-1. Lovely, full Red surfaces. This variety shows the clearest and crispest doubling of the final two digits of the date. PCGS reports only 3 other examples in this grade, with none finer. Struck from lightly clashed, worn dies, which helps explain why this variety is not yet known in Gem condition. This variety was discovered in 1959 by Q. David Bowers. The only better Red example of which we are aware is the NGC graded MS-65 Red example that sold for $9,775 in Heritage's June 2002 Long Beach sale -- the only 65 Red example graded by either service!
Estimated Value $7,000 - 8,000.

Realized $8,625
