Forty 18th Century Bird and Fish Copper-Plate Engravings. An exotic grouping of 40 different late 18th century copper-plate engravings of birds and fishes. Multiple different species on each plate. Many classic birds, including the Eagle, Flamingo, Swallow Tailed Falcon, the King of Vultures, Horned Parrot, the Grand Pomerops, the Guinea Fowl, Balearic Crane, Watled Heron, etc. Twenty-nine of the plates are of birds; the balance are fishes, turtles, insects, and a few mammals, such as the Wild Boar of Cape Verde. Uniform plate size, including border, is 8 x 5 in. Nice dark imprints. Light toning, mostly in margins. These pieces can be beautifully colored, matted, and framed. An attractive grouping.
