Full-page Engraving of the Statue of Liberty, 1884. January 19, 1884 Harper's Weekly, New York, 16 pp, 16 x 11¼ in. This famous weekly newspaper has a full page engraving of the Statue of Liberty surrounded by scaffolding that was necessary for its erection in Paris to ascertain that all the pieces fitted accurately. The statue was a gift of the French nation to the American people. The prospectus of theproject's Franco-American committee is included as "We design to erect in the unequalled harbor ofNew york a gigantic statue on the threshold of the New World, to rise from the bosom of the waves, and represent Liberty enlightening the World." Dampstaining in upper right corner throughout; otherwise Very Fine.
