Elizabethan Vellum Deed. A beautifully-penned English vellum deed, approximately 10½ x 18 in., dated August 30, 1583, "the 25th year of the glorious Reign of Queen Elizabeth I of England." This deed, in Latin, indicates the conveyance of property in Bray in Cokeham in the County of Berkshire between several parties whose addresses include Eaton. One of those mentioned is William Daye, then Provost of Eaton College. The parties also include Robert Strope, Thomas Rydley, and Francis Pigot, all of whom sign at the bottom of the indenture, as well as William Coxe of Eaton in Winsor, and William Raynor, also of Eaton. Lengthy docket information on verso. Beautifully intact, with one small hole in vellum at fold. Large red wax seal has incused indistinct inside image of a woman's head (possibly Queen Elizabeth). This document deserves some scholarly research as to the identities of the aforementioned gentlemen. Normal folds, with light to heavier soiling, mostly to the back of the document. An excellent display item.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 3,500.
