Lot 2761

1895-O. PCGS graded MS-61. An immensely popular, key date issue due to the rarity of fully Mint State examples. Mostly brilliant, with semi-reflective surfaces and a hint of golden color at the centers. Well struck, with nice feather and hair detail (a nice plus on this date). The MS-61 grade seems to derive mainly from the light scuffs that appear on both sides; otherwise, the luster, strike, and overall eye appeal are more indicative of an MS-64 grade. In the final analysis, we'd take this coin over a heavily bagmarked or poorly struck MS-63 any day -- and we suspect our bidding audience will express the same sentiment with strong bidding. PCGS reports 19 examples in MS-61 and only 52 finer -- not nearly enough to satisfy the intense demand from the thousands of collectors who love this series (PCGS # 7236) Estimated Value $10,000 - 12,000

Realized $14,375
