Imperatorial Rome. Sextus Pompey, d. 35 BC. AR Denarius, Sicily, struck 42-40 BC. Choice example. Bare head of Pompey Magnus right, lituus before, capis behind. Reverse: Neptune, foot on prow and holding aplustre, standing left between the Catanaean brothers Anapias and Amphinomus, each of whom carries a parent. Craw. 511/3a; Sear 2000 1392. Sharply struck, especially so on reverse, on good metal. Very good portrait, with lovely old toning. Choice Very Fine.
