Sicily. Gela, c. 405-380 BC. Gold Litra (0.9 g). Extremely Rare! Forepart of galloping horse right, with bridle and tight rein. Reverse: Head of goddess Sosipolis left, hair in sphendone; ΣΩΣIΠOΛIΣ at left. Jenkins Gela 491; SNG Lloyd 980. Evidence of clashing or die breaking over name on reverse. Superb sharp strike, and equally superb art. A wonderful coin. Virtually Mint State.
