Lot 1125

1834 $5 Classic Head. Plain 4. NGC graded MS-65. Wonderful, orange-gold surfaces, with a rich, creamy mint frost and an overall satiny appearance. Sharply struck on all areas except for the highest hair curls, which were never "built" with much detail anyway. Perfectly original, never cleaned or improved…just a stunning example of the date and type. Tied with six other coins as the Finest Graded by NGC.

The NGC Census Report shows clearly just how important his piece is. No other date or variety in the Classic Head series has been graded MS-65 by NGC, not a single 1835, 1836, 1837, 1838, or any of the branch mint coins. Nor have any been graded finer than the example offered here. Thus, the collector seeking a Gem example of this type has one option -- buy this coin!
Estimated Value $30,000 - 40,000.

Realized $33,350
