Lot 1078

1860 $2.50 Liberty. Old reverse. MS-60. First impressions suggest a grade of MS-63 or better, but closer examination reveals some light hairlines in the left obverse field. The reverse is very choice. This is a very scarce variety, using a reverse that was discontinued (supposedly) in 1858, but which kept reappearing on some quarter eagles all the way until 1862! PCGS has graded only 2 Mint State examples of this date, one in MS-62 and another in MS-64.
Estimated Value $3,000 - 3,500.

Realized $1,783
