Lot 882

1911-D $2.50 Indian. NGC graded MS-64 PQ. Stunning, pale orange colors and an absolutely incredible strike. The color and surfaces are reminiscent of a matte or satin finish proof, as the fields display the same sort of sandblast texture and flat, even color. A fabulous example of this key date, the only real rarity in the series. A great coin for the quality-conscious buyer. For all practical purposes only a single die pairing was used according the Breen (the second die pairing struck just 70 coins). Only 55,860 struck, making this the key date to the series, and one of the few gold date sets of anything most collectors could ever hope to complete.
Estimated Value $18,000 - 20,000.

Realized $18,000
