Paeonian Kingdom. Patraos, 335-315 BC. AR Tetradrachm (12.71 g). Head of youthful Apollo right. Reverse: Armed horseman riding down Macedonian hoplite right, king's name above. Cf. SNG ANS Macedonia I, 1036, for obverse. Reverse in bold, interesting provincial style. Handsomely toned, the metal with faint, even porosity. Also an AR Drachm, Rhodian imitation from Thessaly: Head of Helios facing slightly right / Rose; above, ΣTAΣIΩN, club and bow towards bottom left. Ashton, NumChron 148, note 34. Obverse die showing wear, thus portrait a touch soft. Reverse with peripheral double striking, nevertheless coin pleasing in appearance, with attractive toning. Lot of 2 coins. First Very Fine plus; second Extremely Fine.
