Lot 357

1806 Draped Bust Half Dollar. Pointed 6, stem through claw. PCGS graded MS-61. Satiny gray in color with glowing luster in the protected areas. As with most 1806 half dollars, the strike is not abundantly sharp, but all the devices are reasonably well struck including the Liberty's upper hair and the eagle's head and stars above, which are present but a touch weak. Important as a type coin, as few draped bust half dollars are found in grades even approaching mint state. Further, this is likely one of the very finest known of the variety. Quickly identifiable by the doubled Y in LIBERTY and encircling die crack through the first few stars and date, and a reverse crack at the tops of STATE.
Estimated Value $4,000 - 5,000.
