Lot 560

1853 Liberty Seated Quarter Dollar. Recut date, no arrows or rays. NGC graded MS-67. Bright white and lustrous with abundant mint flash throughout. The fields and surfaces show virtually no signs of handling, and this is a certainty as there is no toning for marks and ticks to hide behind. One tiny gold spot above the R in QUAR on the reverse. Boldly struck by the dies, with full radial lines on the stars, and deep folds on Liberty's drapery. NGC has only graded 2 coins this high, with a single coin graded higher. Long known as a rare date, a small hoard of mint state coins traces back to Harold Newlin, before 1883, and this may have come from that group. A superb example of the No Arrows variety, which shows the recut 53 clearly.
Estimated Value $10,000-UP.

Realized $10,350
