Domitian, 81-96 AD. Medallic Bilingual AE 37 mm. of Philippopolis, Thrace, struck 88/89 AD. Rare! An exceptional example of this interesting type. Laureate head of Domitian right; legend in Latin. Reverse: Female figure, in chiton and wearing mural crown(?), stands left, holding patera and two ears of corn; at feet, river-god, Hebrus, reclines right, resting on overturned urn and holding reed, reed behind; Greek legend around. RPC 351; Mouchmov 3-5. Bold, stylish portrait and excellent variegated deep green, red and brown patina. Superb Extremely Fine.
