1853 Mint Error, double struck rotated in collar. NGC graded EF-40 Brown. Both sides are entirely double struck and the original strike is about 90 degrees clockwise from the later strike, which mostly obliterated the first strike. Note Liberty's headband point near the second star on the obverse, and this will orient the viewer to the various prior strike evidence. All mint errors from the period are scarce and always popular with collectors. There is a broad streak on the reverse probably from a rubber band. Chocolate brown in color with typical circulation marks.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.

Realized $863
