Lot 157

1823/2 Braided Hair Cent. . N-1. NGC graded AU-55 Brown. One of the finest graded of this rare overdate, NGC has graded one coin as AU-55, with 3 graded in AU-58 above, there are none graded higher. PCGS is similar in their Population Report, where we note none graded in AU-55, and a single coin graded higher, it also AU-58. No mint state coins have yet been graded by the two main services. This one has deep brown colors with a few trivial handling marks. Identifiable by a tick on the lowest point of the twelfth star and a couple of small ticks around the date. On the reverse there is a short mark below the T of UNITED, and a small toning spot below the R of AMERICA. Well struck and preserved, with average handling marks for the grade. An important opportunity for the specialist.
Estimated Value $3,000 - 4,000.

Realized $3,450
