Guilbert, Yvette (1865-1944) Chanteuse depicted by Chéret and Toulouse-Lautrec and admired by Freud. She attempted to help Jewish artists during the Vichy regime; her avowed goal was to "wage a war of love against anti-Semitism." Autograph letter signed, 1½ pp, in French, 5½ x 7¼ in., Lenk, Switzerland, Aug. 30, n.y. With holograph envelope, lacking upper right corner. To journalist and broadcaster Emily Nathan: "Have you thought constructively about our conversation? If you are still prepared to help with my idea of a crusade for your poor fellow Jews, do me the favor of letting me know what price the Radio charges for five and for 10 minutes of conversation on the station. Can you also give me the addresses of a few rich Jews who would pay the Radio station to come to the aid of their own, by making appeals to the Aryans…." Very good; uneven toning; small area of text missing, affecting a couple of words but not the signature. Estimated Value $200 - 300

Realized $120
