Washington, Bushrod - Correspondence To "Gen.(eral) La fayette" (1762-1829) Associate Justice of the Supreme Court and nephew of George Washington; he served in the Continental Army and retired at Mount Vernon after his legal career.
Autograph note signed in the third person, "Judge Washington," 1 page, 8 x 6½ in., datelined "Walnut Farm - June 12, 1802". In full: "Judge Washington presents his most respectful compliments to Mons. Pichon, and requests the favor of him to forward to Gen. La Fayette the enclosed letter [not present] by the first conveyance." There are a few tiny scattered flyspecks and small 1 x 1½ in. paper loss, partially touching two letters; archivally tipped to a larger sheet. Even after George Washington's death, his family stayed in touch with Lafayette, who had been like a son to Washington.
