Great Britain. Norman Kings of England. AR Penny, ND (Northampton, struck c. 1083-1086). North-851; S-1258. 1.35 grams. William II (Rufus), 1087-1100 AD. Profile type. Moneyer, Sacwine. Central circle; a crowned, draped and mustachioed bust right within, holding sword in right hand, arm extending to edge of flan; +PILLELM REX around. Reverse: Central circle, within a cross pattee with annulet center, over cross fleury: +SEPINE ON HMTIN around. Very good strike for issue on a full flan. Handsome, old dark silvery gray toning. Rare type in extraordinary grade. NGC graded MS-61.

This son of the Conqueror was called Rufus for his red hair and beard.
