Great Britain. Kings of Wessex. AR Penny, ND (East Anglia mint). North-651; S-1084. 1.67 grams. Edward the Elder, 899-924 AD. Portrait type. Central circle, diademed and draped bust left within; +EADVVEARD REX around. Reverse: Inscription in two lines: NEIOIR / MEICIO in upper and lower registers, pellets above and below, with three crosses across center. Bold strike and a full flan on quality metal; the reverse showing incipient die breaks. Pleasing dark gray toning; lighter silvery coloring in the recesses. Very Rare. One of the few known without any clips or cracks. NGC graded AU-58.
