Great Britain. Kings of Kent. AR Penny, ND (struck c. 780, Canterbury mint). North-200; S-874. 1.04 grams. Ecgberht, 765-780 AD. Small REX monogram ("Rx") at center, EGCBERHT around. Reverse: Three registers: top and bottom with cross between foliated scrolls, VDD in center. Good strike on quite good metal, just very faintly porous in a few spots; edges a little ragged. Attractive dark gray toning. Extremely Rare, and overall a lovely example. NGC graded EF-45.

The first Anglo-Saxon silver penny, this specimen found near Chatham in Kent.
Estimated Value $7,000 - 8,000.
