Great Britain. Archbishop of York. AR Sceat, ND (struck c. 732/4-766 AD). North-192 (extremely rare); S-852. 0.92 grams. Ecgberht, 737-758 AD. Struck during the reign of his brother, Eadberht, King of Northumbria. Mitred figure right, holding two crosses; at right, ECgberhT A R. Reverse: Small cross at center, EOTberehTvr around. Well struck on choice metal. Moderately deep toning, with iridescent blue, geen and gold toning in the recesses. A very pleasing example, elusive as such. NGC graded AU-55.
