Peru - Republic. 8 Escudos, 1855 -MB (Lima). Fr-62 var.; KM-148.5. 26.91 grams. Abbreviated "REPUB." Tri-segmented shield of arms supported by crossed flags, and crowned above by wreath. Reverse: Liberty as Pallas Athene, stands frontal supporting cap on spear, while one hand rests on shield. Soft centers, but better than typical. Deep old toning, with areas of red and magenta -- slightly mottled with blue. Satiny to mirror fields with bold cartwheel luster. A one year type. A common coin, but very rare when well struck and preserved. This is one of the finest known. NGC graded MS-62.
