Macedonian Kingdom. Philip II, 359-336 B.C. Gold Stater (8.64 g), Abydos mint, struck c. 323-319 BC. Struck under Phili. Struck under Philip III. Laureate head of youthful Apollo right. Reverse: Charioteer driving fast biga right; xi and horse's(?) leg beneath far horse. Thompson, Philip 89a; ADM II, Series V, 88; SNG ANS 298. A splendid example, and beautifully struck. Wonderful late Classical style; the reverse, especially, a work of art for this series. Lustrous. Superb Extremely Fine.
