Diaz, Porfirio (1830-1915) Mexican dictator for 35 years; overthrown by Francisco Madero in 1911 and died in exile. A beautiful, ornate, partly-printed Document Signed as President, Mexico City, May 2, 1885, two pages elephant folio. Being a promotion to Major for Abelardo Avalos, 1st Captain of the Staff Officers of the Engineering Faculty. A vignette of the eagle with the snake covers much of the top third of the document. A white and gray seal is at top left and there are six revenue stamps across the top edge. Diaz' signature is quite large. The document is open so that the back page is visible with its notations. Some light edge toning, but still the nicest Diaz document we have seen. Matted to an overall size of 23 x 28 ½ inches.
Estimated Value $500 - 750.
