Bar Kochba Revolt, AD 132-135. AE Large Bronze (31mm; 12.96g) dated year 2 (AD 133/4). . Hen-704. Inscription within palm wreath. Reverse: Amphora with fluted body, conical foot and handles from middle of neck to shoulders. Mesh1 191. H-704. Mild 18 [13 examples cited]. Holed at near 12 o'clock. Fine to Very Fine.
Estimated Value $8,000 - 9,000.
While perforated denars are occasionally seen, this rare large bronze denomination is unrecorded as a holed, ex ancient-jewelry piece. The Mildenberg reverse dies 4 and 12 are amongst the most beautiful and charismatic of all Bar Kochba coinage.
