Lot 738

1853 N-25 R1. PCGS graded MS-64 Red & Brown. Repunched 1 & 3. Frosty mint red fading to olive and steel. About half the faded mint color remains on the obverse and 25% on the reverse. The surfaces are satiny and attractive but there are a few specks of darker toning around star 8 and a mint-made planchet crease through OF. MDS, die state b. The repunching at the bottom of the 1 & 3 remains visible but the fine die lines found on the early state of the reverse are gone. Our grade is MS63.
Estimated Value $150-UP.
From the Phyllis Thompson collection.
