Lot 721

1853 N-28 R3+ PCGS graded MS63 Brown. Lustrous medium steel brown with delicate overtones of bluish steel and peeps of faded mint red on the reverse. There is a small spot of darker steel toning over star 11 and a thin struck-through line between stars 4 & 5. LDS, die state c. All the die lines of the earlier states are gone, the fields are heavily flowlined, and the top of the 8 is weak and blurry. Our grade is MS60, tied for CC#8 in the Grellman census. Comes with a nice provenance that includes two fellows who completed the Sheldon die variety series of early date cents (Brown did it twice!). Pop 2; 4 finer, 2 in 64, 2 in 65. Estimate Value $500 - UP
