Lot 706

1852 N-4 R1. MS-60. Very attractive and highly lustrous light chocolate and olive brown with generous traces of mint red showing on the reverse. The only marks are a tiny horizontal swipe of darker toning to the left from the curl before the ear and a tiny planchet flake in the dentils at star 5, as struck. M-LDS, die state b. The reverse is cracked but the obverse remains uncracked. A shallow low spot covers much of the neck, a result of debris stuck to the die. A nice cent for the grade, tied for CC#10 in the Grellman census.
Estimated Value $200-UP.
Ex Herman Halpern, Stack's 3/16/88:677-J. R. Frankenfield, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 2/17/01:1698 (via Don Valenziano)-Phyllis Thompson.
