Lot 67

1843 N-6 R1 Mature Head with Repunched 18 MS63. Choice lustrous bluish steel mixed with subtle hints of sea green overtones. Small, very subtle splashes of slightly lighter brown toning are scattered over the upper half of the obverse. Satiny mint frost covers everything, even the highest points of the devices, offering outstanding eye appeal for the grade. The only mark is a very tiny planchet chip on the rim at star 5, as struck. Sharply struck E-MDS, die state a. The repunching on the 18 is clear and the die lines at UNIT are visible. The rims are squared and wide. (Note: The rims on Mature Head cents are normally wider than those found on the Petite Head varieties.) Tied for CC#5 in the Grellman census. Now housed in a PCGS MS65+ BN holder. (PCGS # 403943).
Estimated Value $2,000-UP.
