Lot 64

1843 N-12 R8 (as a proof). PCGS graded Proof 63 Brown. Bluish steel brown with 15% of the bright original mint color remaining. The fields are nicely reflective with rather deep mirrors, although there are some very tiny struck-through lint marks on the obverse, which are a characteristic of early proof strikes. The rim under the date is a bit uneven, as struck. There is a small spot of light toning in the dentils over the R in AMERICA, a speck of darker toning (not carbon) just right of the top of T in CENT, and a tiny nick below that C. A beautiful proof cent, close to choice. Called Proof-63 in the Bland census, Proof-60+ in the Loring census. Our grade is Proof-62. One of only two confirmed proof strikes of the variety. PCGS population 1; 1 in Proof-65 Brown. Only 2 Proofs graded. DWH #1854 (PCGS # 397599) .
Estimated Value $10,000-UP.
