Lot 549

1813 S-293 R2 Turban Head PCGS graded AU50. The so-called 3 over 2 overdate variety. Frosty chocolate and steel. Satiny mint luster shows in some of the protected areas on both sides. No hint of roughness or verdigris. The only marks, and they are not at all significant, are a nick on the outer point of star 6 and a dull scratch down the right side of the D in UNITED. M-LDS, Breen state III. Evidence of the 3 over 2 overdate, which is visible only in the early die state, is gone. The strike is a bit uneven, as usual for the die state, with weakness at stars 6 & 7 and on the opposing UN in UNITED (caused by die faces out of parallel alignment). Our grade is EF40.
Estimated Value $1,500-UP.

Realized $2,530
