Lot 50

1843 N-5 R1 Mature Head MS62. Slightly faded mint red mellowing to light steel brown, about two-thirds of the red remaining. There is a small splash of darker steel toning at the throat and a dull scrape along the top edge of the bust tip, but it takes a good glass to see it. E-MDS, die state a. The die lines at MER are clear but starting to weaken as fine flowlines extend into the fields from the dentils. Has the sharpness and eye appeal of a significantly higher grade. CC#4 in the Grellman census. Removed from a PCGS slab graded MS64RB (PCGS label included). DWH #2481.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
