El Al (Hebrew Alphabet), State Gold Medal, 1969, 35mm. 30 gm, 917 fine, 1,940 minted. An outstanding design by the great American graphic artist Ben Shahn. Commemorates 20th anniversary of establishing air links with Europe and Africa. Obverse features a stylized dove, and the Biblical quote: "Bring back my sons from far and my daughters from the end of the earth (Isaiah 43:6)." The 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet are shown on the reverse. Choice Uncirculated.
