Mineral Bank of Maryland $1.00 Bank Note, Cumberland, MD. PCGS Fine 12. This is an extremely rare denomination for this bank, this note being the only example that we are aware of. Shank considers this an R-7, but we would certainly not be surprised if it were unique. This is an interesting city bank in that they took their name for a county in West Virginia (then Virginia), but were actually located on the north side of the Potomac River in downtown Cumberland. This bank was chartered in March of 1836 and liquidated in 1857. This note is featured in both Haxby and Shank as the plate note. Haxby MD-172-G2, Shank 30.8.1, R-7.
Estimated Value $700 - 900.
The Rob Lehmann Collection.
