Lot 399

1850 N-14 R4 PCGS graded MS65 Brown. Lustrous light to medium chocolate brown with very subtle hints of reddish chocolate brown overtones on the obverse. Traces of faded mint red remain visible on the reverse. The only marks are a couple microscopic planchet flakes near the hair under star 7 (as struck) and a few tiny spots olive brown dirt on the obverse, including one in the field close before the forehead and another left of star 13. The reverse is choice. Sharply struck VEDS, die state a early. This is a rare die state with smooth, hard fields and sharp die lines at the throat and over ICA in AMERICA. Our grade is MS62, CC#4 overall but finest known of the early die state by a wide margin. Estimated Value $850-UP
