Lot 397

1857 N-1 R1 Large Date PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown, CAC Approved. Lustrous bright mint red fading to light bluish steel brown with 80% of the bright original red showing on the obverse while about 20% of the reverse shows mellowed mint color. An impressive cent that offers great eye appeal. The notable marks, and they are not at all distracting, are a dull nick on the truncation over the 8, a spot of darker toning nestled between the upper left points of star 4, and a speck of carbon over star 5. M-LDS, die state b. The top of the stray 1 hidden in the dentils under the right side the normal 1 is weak and the die lines over NI in UNITED are gone. Our grade is MS63, tied for CC#10 in the Grellman census. The attribution and Oakes provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 6; 3 finer, 2 in 65, 1 in 65+ for the variety at PCGS. Estimated Value $1,500-UP

Ex Dean Oakes-A & A Coins, Inc.-Shawn Yancey 2/20/2014-Fred Iskra Collection.
