Egypt. 500 Piastres, AH1348/1929. Fr-31; KM-355 (unlisted as Proof). Fuad, 1917-1936. Uniformed bust left. Reverse: Denomination above center circle, dates flank below. NGC graded Proof 63.
Fuad was originally the Sultan of Egypt, but changed his title to king, when Great Britain formally recognized Egyptian independence in 1922. Yet Fuad was a ruler in name only, since Britain pulled the strings. Britain controlled the Suez Canal, Sudan, and Egyptian foreign policy.
