Colombia. 16 Pesos, 1839-RS (Bogota). Fr-74; KM-94.1. Republic of Nueva Granada. Draped female bust with LIBERTAD on head band. Reverse: Condor and ribbon over national arms. Original luster. NGC graded MS-61.

In 1839, Colombia was actually the Republic of Nueva Granada. This grew out of the previous Gran Colombia, a creation of Simon Bolivar, who hoped to maintain one nation of all the countries of the area. Ecuador and Venezuela seceded from Gran Colombia, leaving just Panama as an additional part of Nueva Granada.
