Commodus, AD 177-192. Gold Aureus (7.25 g) minted at Rome, AD 181. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right of the emperor. Reverse: Securitas seated right, holding scepter. Cf. RIC 23 (obv.); Calicó 2325 (same rev. die) Well struck and well centered. An outstanding lustrous example. Nearly Mint State.
