Lycian Dynasts. Kherei, c. 410-390 BC. AR Stater (8.58 gm), uncertain mint. Rare! Head of Athena right, with crested Attic helmet ornamented with olive leaves and spiral palmette. Reverse: Forepart of bull kneeling right; above, Lycian inscription naming Kherei, all in incuse square. Hurter, INJ 14, pl. 2, 8 (same dies). Cf. Mørkholm and Zahle, AA 47, 53, and SNG Copenhagen Suppl. 456 (hemidrachm with these types). Vismara -. SNG von Aulock -. Usual somewhat worn obverse die, but here retaining very good detail. Pleasingly toned. The reverse a superb example of late East Greek Streng Stil art! Nearly Extremely Fine.
