Lot 3151

Sasanian Kingdom. Shapur II, AD 309-379. Gold Dinar (6.95 g) minted at Kabul. Crowned bust right of Shapur II; inscription is pseudo-garbled as usual for this mint. Reverse: Fire altar with ribbons. Göbl type 1a/6a; MK 1224; SNS III, type 1b/2a. Rare. Choice Extremely Fine.

Well-struck gold coins of the Sasanians are rarely encountered. This reverse type, without the two attendants, harkens to earlier kings.
Estimated Value $4,000 - 5,000.
Ex Triton XIII (5 I 10), lot 278.

Realized $8,338
