Lot 3124

Great Britain. Crown, 1746. S.3689; ESC-125; Dav-1350; KM-585.3. George II, 1727-1760. Attractive mint state with a subtle grey-green tone over an underlying brilliance. Obverse, second, older laureate bust of king by John Tanner. LIMA below in small capital letters, GEORGIVS II DEI GRATIA. Reverse; Crowned cruciform shields, plain in angles. Edge reads ANNO REGNI DECIMO NONO in raised letters. Crisply struck with great eye appeal. NGC graded MS-63 Gold Sticker. WINGS Approved.

* This is one of the great classic British Crown pieces, and silver Crowns were minted infrequently during the king's 33 year reign. Some of the treasure seized by Admiral Anson during his circumnavigation of the globe 1740-1744 was made into coin which had the word LIMA below the king's bust to celebrate the successful taking of precious metal from the Spanish in their New World colonies. This specimen is among the finest of the LIMA Crowns which have survived the nearly 270 year journey to present times.
Estimated Value $5,500 - 6,000.

Realized $6,169
