Kingdom of Macedon. Alexander III, the Great, 336-323 BC. Gold Stater (8.58 g) attributed to Abydos, c. 323-317 BC. Head right of Athena wearing triple-crested helmet, decorated with snake. Reverse: Nike standing left, holding wreath and stylis; in left field, monogram, pentagram and cornucopiae. Price 1524; M. 381. Several marks on edge probably from having been mounted. Scratching at bottom of reverse. Lovely obverse. About Extremely Fine.
