Lot 304

1853 N-5 R2 Repunched 53 PCGS graded AU58, CAC Approved. Light to medium chocolate brown. No marks or other defects, but the luster is hidden under a thin layer of natural oxidation. This piece appears to have been untouched for many decades and shallow dirt is nestled around all the devices. Needs a proper bath to bring out the underlying beauty. The best identifying mark is a small spot of darker toning left of the lower left point of star 11 and another midway between star 2 and the chin. Nicely struck E-MDS, die state a. The fine repunching under the 3 is visible in spite of the dirt, and the fine die lines from the inner curl are present. Our grade is AU50. The attribution and Iskra provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 2 finer in 65 for the variety at PCGS. Estimated Value $200-UP

Ex Darin Whittaker 6/21/2002-Fred Iskra Collection.
