Lot 30

1795 C-6b R6. VG-8. No Pole with Thick Planchet. A couple points sharper but there is very fine roughness scattered over the fields on the lower half of the obverse. No verdigris and the only notable sign of contact is a small rim nick right of the fraction. Otherwise the reverse is choice. Glossy steel brown and chocolate. The obverse was lightly cleaned and retoned but the toning on the reverse appears original. EDS, Manley state 1.0, without any hint of a bulge right of the Y in LIBERTY. The date is relatively weak, as usual on the thick planchet version, but it is complete and easily readable while the reverse legend is strong. Struck on a thick planchet most likely cut down from a spoiled large cent. The weight is 100.3 grains versus the 84 grain standard for normal half cent planchets.
Estimated Value $3,000 - 4,000.
