Lot 28

1795 C-5b R4. VF-30. No Pole with Thick Planchet. Nice medium brown and light chocolate, the highpoints a shade or two lighter than the fields. No roughness or verdigris, only a few minor contact marks from choice. The notable marks are a small rim nick before the eye and light rim bruises under the bust tip, left of the lowest curl, and at ED in UNITED. A very tiny planchet clip, as struck, is visible only from the edge opposite the mouth and at the opposing I in AMERICA. At the lower end of the condition census for the variety. Struck on a thick planchet likely from a cut-down spoiled large cent, and it weighs a hefty 122.3 grains versus the normal thin planchet standard of 84 grains.
Estimated Value $5,000 - 6,000.
Ex Chris McCawley FPL 1/04.

Realized $5,750
