Lot 27

1795 C-5a R3. EF-40. No Pole with Thin Planchet. Choice glossy medium chocolate brown. Outstanding eye appeal, virtually flawless. The only mark is a light hairline scratch blending perfectly into the toning over UN in UNITED. EDS with the usual soft strike in the obverse dentils from K-7 to K-9 and at the opposing dentils over D-STA. This striking characteristic is described by Manley and indicates this pair of dies was not in perfect axial alignment (the die faces were not perfectly parallel). The planchet is not perfectly round with a hint of egg-shape, but the copper is smooth and choice. Removed from an old green label PCGS slab graded AU50 (PCGS label included). Tied for CC#6. Weight 79.5 grains.
Estimated Value $4,000 - 5,000.
Found in Europe-Tom Reynolds 1//90.

Realized $15,525
